Lights, camera, action!

Welcome back!

This week we have been looking at ways we can use camera angles to tell a story, we have been collaborating with our team mates to make the story come to life. We are working in groups of 4 where we have been taking turns at different roles.

They are:

  • Scene Manager - 1 person moves the characters

  • Camera person - 1 person takes the photo

  • Director - 1 person tells the characters what to do

  • Editor - 1 person looks at the final shots and tells next steps

It has been fun taking turns because it is helping us see what the different roles do and how they are all important to make the final movie.

We are planning on using stop motion to make our movie and we can't wait to share it with you soon!

Storytelling and Relationships

Hey there,
Keeping with the idea of storytelling, we have been working as a class to learn more about storyboarding and planning our ideas to help prepare us for our Film Festival movie making!

We have been learning about what makes a good story and how we can hook our audience in using different sounds and camera angles. Check out a few of our plans here:

Our next stage is to share our ideas and plans with the class and decide whick story we want to create - maybe some of our ideas might join together - which is a big part of building smart relationships!

Collaborating with others to learn and grow with one another!

That's all for today,
 Naomi

Planning - Getting our ideas together

 Kia Ora,

We have been looking at ways we can use story telling to build smart relationships. We have been looking at writing Positive, Thoughtful, Helpful comments online.

It has been useful to think about how we are using our words to connect with people, practising different ways of communication with others.

We are looking forward to practicing this in upcoming sessions!

Room 6 children receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion

Over the weekend, ten of us in Room 6, received the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. For about six weeks we met together after Mass on Sundays, for lessons with our teacher. For Confirmation, we had to choose a Saint who we admire and would be close to us for the rest of our lives.

As the time was getting closer, we were getting more and more excited to meet the new Bishop, who was going to come to our parish to be with us as we continue our journey with Jesus. We also had to decide what we were going to wear. For Confirmation, which was on Saturday night, we could wear any clothes that were respectful. For First Holy Communion on Sunday, the girls were asked to wear white and the boys could wear white and black. We all looked fabulous.

Bishop Steve was very kind to us and he even came to celebrate in the hall with us afterwards. We had a special morning tea with the parish. There were so many people there who were congratulating us. We felt very close to Jesus and we will remember this weekend forever.

Receiving our beautiful new Dictionaries

Last Friday, the 13th May, we were so excited because we were having visitors to our class. Just before morning tea there was a knock at the door and Ms Bullot and our teacher came inside with two ladies. Ms Bullot introduced them to us as the "word fairies" because they were bringing us brand new dictionaries. We can use our dictionaries to help us with our writing and look up the meanings of new words.

Mrs Kearns told us a little bit about what Pakuranga Rotary does in the community. They raise money to buy Dictionaries for children not only for our school but for children around the Pacific. They have been coming to our school for many years and we are very grateful.

We all signed our names inside our books and our teacher took photos of us. Here is a picture of us after we had received our books. Thank you Pakuranga Rotary - we feel blessed.

Snapshots of what we have been up to in Room 6 this Term.

Welcome to Room 6. This Term has been an unusual one, where not all of us have been able to come to school every day, as we would have like to. It has taught us how much we enjoy being able to participate in and contribute to our learning when we are at school with our classmates.

Class Treaty

At the beginning of the term we read 'The Tree Hut Treaty' by Wiremu Grace, which helped us develop our own thoughts on what we wanted our classroom to look, feel and sound like this year. It encouraged us to think about what being a good classmate entails and this fitted in with our Mitey learning about 'Mana' as well.

We created our own Tree Hut on the wall at the back of the classroom by painting and adding animals, insects and beautiful flowers to it.

This is our Class Tree Hut with all of us inside it and some of our 'mana' words on the ladder leading up into the hut. We have our Class Treaty up too, which we have all signed:

Cricket

We have also been lucky enought this term to have had cricket skills with Coach Nick from Cricket Auckland. We have learned and practised small ball skills, like throwing, catching, underarm, overarm throws, aiming at the wickets and playing non stop cricket. It has been so much fun and we learned so much:

Time Capsule

We set our year's learning goals and placed them in a time capsule, which we hid in a secret place till the end of the year. We hope to work towards achieving these goals over the next three terms.

Profile Self Portraits

Later in the term we created self portraits using an overhead projector. We looked at light refraction and used our profiles to project these onto the white board. Then our partners traced around the image on black paper. These were cut out and stuck onto a white background. We reminded ourselves that we are all unique and special and created in the image and likeness of God. We love our portraits:

Designing and Creating our own model Tree Huts

Finally, we finished the term with the design and creation of our own model Tree Huts. We drew a plan on squared paper and then brought recycled materials from home. In the last week of term we spent everyday creating our tree huts and it was fun. We had some success criteria to follow, so we kept on having to refer to these.

Success Criteria were: the huts had to be less than 50cm tall, they had to be water and wind resistant and they had to be able to take the weight of 4 pairs of scissors.
On the last day of term we painted and then had to test our huts against the criteria and most of our tree huts were successful. We all said this was our best week at school!!!

Here are some photos:

Happy Easter everybody!
