Cybersmart Term 4

Last week we started our final topic in Cybersmart...we were learning how to be cybersmart in a learn, create, share world. We made an infographic about our initial ideas.  Check out the rest of the classes blogs to see what they thought!

Hooray! We have a Sacred Space

On the first day back at school, we noticed that we had a brand new sacred garden. This is a special place where we can go to pray and spend time with God.
There are two metal benches with wooden seat for us to sit on. There are three concrete plinths and one has the RNDM cross on it. This is for the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions. On the middle plinth there is a beautiful painted tile which has green New Zealand hills and a koru sign (growth) with the Trinity.
On the third plinth there is our school motto - Fidelis. There are also three trees.
This sacred space was gifted to our school by the Mission sisters, when they celebrated their 150 year jubilee.
We are very proud of this beautiful place for us to visit. Thank you Sister Lorraine and all the other Mission Sisters.

Birthday Celebrations

Celebrations in Room 6 this week as Jamie turns 8.  

Jamie brought a chocolate cake to share with her friends in class.  The candle came from home to school for birthday wishes.

Kindness and Kaitiakitanga

This morning Mrs Collins shared that this was 'anti-bullying' week. To explain how we feel when someone hurts us, we were all given a piece of paper on which we had to draw a picture of ourselves. Then we swapped our pictures with one another so that we didn't have our own. Mrs Collins asked us to scrunch the picture up as tightly as possible. After that we had to open it up carefully and pass it back to the person it belongs to.  We were shocked to see our pictures with so many wrinkles and creases on them. Mrs Collins explained that when we say or do mean things to one another we leave a crease on that person which is very difficult to undo or make better.
This week our class goal is to help one another with kindness.

Welcome back to Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2...today is day 1 and in our Cybersmart lesson some of us chose to write about what we did during the holidays and some of us chose to write about cross country which we all did as a whole school.

Cross country

In the holiday me and my sister started watching Netflix.

It was awesome for episode was named mc2 project  and we ate lot of food. My mum was working and it fun

to watch it.  We did a lot  of resting but we also did some learning like reading,math and writing. Then we watched another movie called The four sisters wedding.



Everyday me and my dad took my mum to her work and we bought some bread and we went home. After that I slept and I fixed my bed room and we watched lot of movies on Netflix and we loved it and we had fun. By Enrich



Today the whole school did cross country.  First we got all ready for cross country by warming up and we were under the canopy. Mrs George told us to get started so we went straight to Miss Agnew who was standing outside of school we were then running down to Mr Bell and then we had to go straight on all the time by running. It was tiring for me

On Easter we had fun because we played easter egg hunt. We played it with little easter chocolate eggs. The chocolate eggs were Maltesers and Cadbury chocolate. I found 9 chocolate eggs, my brother found 12. My mum took a video of us finding easter eggs which she did on my phone.  By Frances E.



During the school holidays I slept in the hospital with my  Dad and my brother because my Dad was sick. I was so sad, I  cried. My Sister wanted to sleep over but there was no space, so she went to my cousins house.  For dinner my brother and I had subway and halved a pie. The next day we ate Mcdonalds and I had a McChicken burger, it was delicious.  By Israel



In the holidays I went to The Taupo Hotel. I took lots of pictures with my phone and when we went inside the entrance room it was hot.  My mom told the waiter what is our room number...she said ”701”. We all looked inside it was very small and nice! Our room was next to the garden with a small lake and a bridge. We took a photo outside of our room, we looked inside the lake we saw some pink, orange fish and black fish! Then we went inside our room. Me and my brother Jaeden jumped on the bed, then my mom told us to get off the bed. My mom and dad took all of our clothes and belongings out of our bags and suitcases. We only stayed there for two days and after the two days we went to the volcanic explorers and the bee shop where we saw bees in a glass or a cage where they made a honeycomb.  It was very cool! We went to the tasting table to taste the bees honey, we all liked the lemon and honey. So we bought it! We all had a very fun and happy day today!  By Jamie



In the holidays we went on a boat trip...lots of my friends came as well. When we got to our seats me and my friend Nino went to look at the water. It was a long ride but when got there we walked to the nearest restaurant. My mom bought some chicken,fries and some fanta. When we got out we started to walk to the park. When we were about to cross the road some of the adults went to the bathroom at the library. When they got out we were already on are way to cross the road. When we got to park we started playing in the grass. When we left the park we went to a shop.We just checked around and then we started to walk back to where the boat was. When we got to are seats my mom put the leftover food on the table and we started to eat. When we got back to the city we just went home by train.  By Julio





For my holiday I went to Australia to my mom's cousin's house to stay there for a bit. Her  cousin made me a room that was one of her daughters that was full of chocolate, then we ate mcdonalds, then we went to sleep. Next morning we went on a cruise and I dipped my feet in the water, then we ate some dinner.  It was my first time drinking coke vanilla...it was yummy! Next morning I went to a zoo where we saw a crocodile, a koala and a kangaroo. I fed the kangaroo and then I got souvenirs. Then I went to a buffet for dinner.  By Mikaela



Today we went on the first cross country and the whole school had to jog which is where you don’t have to run too fast. It was a little hard for me to keep up with the others, but I kept on running. Only room 6, 7’s and 8’s have to do two laps but room 1 and room 2 do 1 lap. While I was jogging, I saw some people were walking fast, running too fast and jogging. I never stopped  jogging around the school like everyone else. In the end I ran slowly to my class and sat down. I was a little tired in the end, but it was fun. By Nikita



On the holidays I went to a ferry to Devonport and I went with my BFF that goes to the some school. My BFF (named Julio) did not really enjoy the ferry. Julio’s mum bought plushies for us that were kiwi’s, it cost $10 per each person and our other friends came to. There were 7 of us there so it cost $70 in total for all of the plushies. We went to a playground and it was fun and I enjoyed it. Before we went to the playground we ate at a small restaurant. We ate fries and chicken. After the fun in the playground we all went back to the ferry to go back to Auckland. By Nino



In the holidays I went to the buffet at happy days.  We went inside the buffet and people were singing  “Happy Birthday” to someone. We went to get some food.  To eat I got rice chop suey and fries. Then we ate. I drank coca cola with our food, our food was yummy with our drink. Then we went all the way home.  By Sililio



Today, on Monday the first day of term, we had cross country running. For cross country we ran around the outside of our entire school. Room 6,7 and 8 had to run two laps and some ran with room 1 and 2.  By Sonasi



Today the whole school did cross country.

First we all got together under the canopy so we could see who we were going to be with and what are we were doing today for fitness. It made me feel happy, but when I started running 2 times around the school I felt way-way tired and I thought I would just give up right then. Jump Jam on a wet Monday morning...this morning when we got to school it was raining. We had Jump Jam today. We danced and danced. I felt a bit bored because I don’t really like Jump jam. After Jump Jam we went to go in the class and Ms. Collins said we were going to make a blog post about it.  by Frances

Jump Jam on a wet Monday morning...this morning when we got to school it was a rainy day for us. We knew we were going to be inside for a long time.  Then we got to go outside for Jump Jam  today and also it was windy too it was like I was falling. It made me feel happy at Jump Jam.

Jump Jam on a wet, Monday morning...this morning was wet when I came to school but I knew we would have Jump Jam. We have it on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday at 9.45. I love to dance and sing and get some exercise and I like being with my friends who also dance and sing with me.

At St Patrick’s School we are lucky because we have a canopy where we can exercise and stay dry.

Hi we do jump jam it is fun we do it after prey and after we learn about god and jesus jump jam is fun we do it because it makes as think hared and it makes us fit we do it under the shade I feel happy I did it with my friends  I really like jump jam.  by Leonie.

 Jump jam on a wet Monday morning...today it was a raining wet day in a Monday morning.After that we went to jump jam for some exercise. Jump Jam on a wet Monday...it was a rainy day when I came to school and I thought it would be a long day inside. First we did RE and then we did Jump Jam at 9.45.  We did three songs and I like getting air in my lungs and exercising. Jump Jam on a wet Monday morning… This morning when we did  jump jam we were out under our canopy even though it was raining. It is like a big tent that keeps us dry. I like Jump Jam because we can get fit and I am with my friends. This term we have been doing it every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.We know all the songs and the actions. We do it for about 15 minutes. I love Jump Jam.

Jump jam on a wet Monday...in the morning at 9:45 am we had jump jam if you haven’t done jump jam before well all you have to do is follow the leaders who are leading jump jam.  If you come sometime to our school on a Monday morning you will get very tired but it’s really fun, before we did jump jam we did R.E, during jump jam we were singing ,dancing and exercising to get some of our energy out of our bodies.  Mrs Collins tried to sneak some photos of jump jam for our blogs but I saw her and her cover was now blown away into thick air after that we did cybersmart.  by Nikita

Jump Jam on a wet Monday morning ...usually on Monday mornings we have Jump Jam at 9.45. It is a good time because we need some fresh air after RE. We also get exercise and this helps us keep fit and happy. After Jump Jam we feel energised and ready for learning. We know pretty much all the songs and actions and one day when we are in Yr 8 we will be the leaders. We prayed in the classroom and we listened to Mikey reading from the bible. When he finish Alex read a bit too about the boy who shared his lunch.After that it was RE time it was the last week of God strand. After that it was Jump Jam when we copy the leaders doing the dance moves. When that was finished Mrs George was looking for the best class and she chose Room 6 to go first to the classroom. This morning when we got to school it was a rainy day and we went inside and did prayers. After we finished prayer we did our work. After that we went outside to Jump Jam. Even though it was wet we can stay dry under the canopy. Room One was the last class to come. Then we did the last song and then we came back to class. By Mikey

The second song, we did is our favourite one. It is called “Snappy!” We love the actions and words to this song. We need to sing and not shout when we do Jump Jam.

Jump Jam on a wet Monday morning

On Monday mornings it is always Jump Jam at 9.45. At jump Jam we have fun. Then Room 1 came towards the end and so they missed some songs. I like it because we have exercise and we can keep fit. My favourite song and actions is "Bob the Builder" because the words are funny.

We are so lucky at our school because even when it is raining we can go outside and get some fresh air. We have a big canopy that can keep us dry.

St Patrick's Day

On Monday, 18 March we celebrated St Patrick's Day. He is our Patron Saint and a man who inspires us to do what is right. The day began with Mass which was followed by a morning of Tabloid Sports. There were five stations set up and we all rotated around them. Two of our favourite activities were the 'Gumboot Throw' and 'Capture the Flag.' We had so much fun and to end the day we were all given a Lemonade ice block. It was a hot day and these were just what we needed.

We are very excited to shortly begin our new class blogging programme and hope to build our confidence and our understanding of Learn Create Share over the year.

We are ready as a class to connect, collaborate, support our cybersmart learning, and utilise our classroom blog as a powerful tool with you and hope that you will find it engaging and inspiring through reading and writing the comments we make and those you leave behind on our class (and in time) individual blogs.  

By using Tuhi Mai, Tuhi Atu we will harness our understanding of Learn, Create, Share and we are confident that with an authentic audience who will regularly comment, the learning we are sharing will develop too.
